Alafia River and the Strawberry Festival

The Plant City Strawberry Festival has been a major event in the spring since 1930.  It attracts some of the most famous country stars like George Jones, Trace Adkins, The Judds and lots more.  And of course there are strawberries - lots of them.  You can make your own strawberry shortcake for about three bucks and have any other kind of strawberry conconction imaginable.  For more information go to their website: Florida Strawberry Festival.

We stayed at Alafia River State Park about 15 miles south of Plant City.  It is a very quiet park on over 8000 acres with plenty of hiking and biking trails.  The park also caters to horse owners with a separate camp area for them and miles and miles of horse trails.  The sites are huge!  They have 30/50 amps and water but no sewer.  There is a conveniently located dump station.  The only problem is that there is only one bathhouse for the entire camping area and it only has one shower in the men's area and one in the women's area.  It didn't cause a problem for us but I did see a line on several occasions waiting for the shower.  There is no playground in the camping area but there is a large one in the picnic area which is about a mile from the campground.

The size of the sites and the natural surroundings make this a great park that we will definitely come back to.
