Wekiwa Springs State Park
One of the most beautiful parks in Florida is Wekiwa Springs State Park.  The springs are clear, cold and in a paradise setting.  The park is very large with lots of hiking trails, kayaking and canoeing in the Wekiwa River and of course swimming in the springs - which are very cold (especially for us southerners).  There are also horseback riding and biking trails.
We did some canoeing the last time we were here and it was great paddling along a pristine river.
The campground is located at the otherside of the park from the springs so it is pretty secluded.  However that is misleading (which is good) because the surrounding community is fairly close but you can't see it or hear it.  Each site is a good size with water and electric (30 and 50 amp).  The dump station is on the way out and very convenient.
There are shopping centers with everything you could need nearby and there are several nice golf course of which I have taken avail.
Orlando is 'around the corner' and that means Disney World and Universal Studios.  In the other direction is Leesburg, Mt. Dora and a small town called Yalaha - more on that later.  This area has some of the best motorcycle rides in Florida with rolling hills and country roads.  Our trip was instigated by the fact that our daughter, Jada, is on the UF Women's Rugby team and they were having a tournament in Tavares, Florida in early October.
Back to Yalaha.  There is a German bakery there that is one of the best that I have found in all of Florida.  Their pastries, breads and other delights are truly authentic.  They have an Octoberfest there each year and next year we will make it a point to go.
Wekiwa Springs is centrally located and a nice place to have your base for checking out the Orlando area.
