St. Georges Island State Park
During this Christmas Break (2007) we decided to go to the Florida Panhandle to checkout St. Georges Island.  It is a barrier island that is about 10 miles long and half of it is a state park.  The state park has nice sites for both tents and RVs.  For RVs there is water and 30/50 amp hookups.  The campground is in a pine forest in the center of the island.  You can hear the waves crashing but you can't see them because there are large sand dunes between.  There is a 4.5 mile bridge that you have to cross to get to the island and once you are on the island, the state park is about 4 miles east.  After you pass the gate, the campground is another 4 miles down the road.  The beaches here are some of the most beautiful that I have seen.  The sand is soft, white and very clean.

There is a small town of St. George in the middle of the island which has a few restaurants, beach shops, and a small grocery store.  Otherwise you have to go to Appalachicola (great little town!) which is about 10 miles away for a larger grocery store.  In order to go to some big stores like Walmart, its going to be a 60 mile trip to Panama City.  Plan to do a lot of beach activities and relaxing while you are here.

Just on the otherside of the bridge is the town of Eastpoint which is mostly made up of seafood fisheries.  I bought a box of oysters (7-8 doz) for $10 and roasted/steamed them on an open fire (um, um good!).  We also had fresh caught shrimp one night.  There is an abundance of fresh seafood available right from the fishermen themselves at reasonable prices.

Beautiful park near small town Florida!
