Our NEW rig is a 2013 Velocity Raptor 4014 LEV
Initially, many years ago, it was a tent and a car. Then a tent and a truck with a topper. Eventually the tenting got old and we got older so we opted for a travel trailer - 21 ft pulled with an SUV. After about a year of that, it was up graded to a 30 ft travel trailer. Eventually that went by the wayside for a newer 30 ft travel trailer. The travel trailers are easy to tow and set up but they have very little storage and the battery is worthless - maybe by now they have that fixed but at the time we had the travel trailers, dry camping with the battery was not an option.
After the travel trailers came the motorhomes. First a used old Allegro with a gas engine. It was fun but I was forever working on the engine. At that time they did not put a powerful enough engine in the motorhomes and they suffered for it. The next was a 38 ft diesel pusher. It was nice. It was a little bit more money than we should have spent but oh well. We could take our motorcycles with us by pulling a cycle trailer. The biggest headache for the pusher was the electrical system which never really worked right - I think there was a gremlin inside of it. Unless we wanted to spend gobbs of money, the motorhome was just not big enough - floorspace wise for our needs, so after much searching - at dealers all over Florida and several RV shows around the state, we decided that a fifth wheel was the best fit for us.
We looked at a lot of 5th wheels and decided on the Titanium by Glendale. It was a little more expensive than the others but the quality showed. They also have a very aerodynamic design which helps with gas mileage. The first Titanium we bought was not a toy hauler. It was really nice and we took it on many road trips - the longest was about 9000 miles over 10 weeks. The only problem we had was the refrigerator - it pooped out but there was a recall for that particular model so it was replaced for free. We liked the Titanium so much that when we decide to get the toy hauler - because we missed bringing the Harley - we got the Titanium Toy Hauler. It is not the typical toy hauler. It is only made for two people, unlike other toy haulers that have bunks for additional people in all sorts of nooks and crannies.
In 2011, I went to Lazydays to get a window seal replaced on the Titanium. I started to look around while they were repairing the window and one thing led to another. Needless to say, we bought a new XLR. Our situation has changed - we are both retired and now occasionally want one of our kids or grandkids to visit us and travel for a while. The XLR has a loft bed which kids love and also in the garage, it has two king size beds that lower from the ceiling. Again, as with the Titanium, I made some modifications - added more cabinets and shelf space, swapped out some furniture and a few other minor things. The garage in the XLR is about 2 ft longer and the roof is higher. It has a generator - for when we spend the night at a Walmart or dry camp. It also has two gas tanks - one for the generator and the other with a pump so that I can carry gas for the Harley.
At the beginning of 2013 the wife decided we needed downsize so we traded in the XLR for a travel trailer - that didn't last long. Way to small and not enough room for all we wanted to do. So back to the dealer - this time Camping World. Finally picked a 4014 LEV Velocity Raptor - the floorplan is on the left. Nice big garage - 2 ft longer than the XLR, large bedroom, and all the stuff the XLR had but nicer quality. Modified it by adding cabinets, computer desks - one for each of us, got rid of the sofa and put in two recliners and it was good to go.
Hopefully this will be the last one.
